A real tropical forest, longer sunsets and rain that leaves puddles

The island’s trees were rebuilt from the ground up, dusk and dawn last minutes instead of seconds, and rain now soaks the ground.

The sun setting over the sea behind beach palms, seen from first person holding a rock.
Dusk on the west coast now lasts a couple of minutes.

The forest, rebuilt

All six tropical tree types were rebuilt: buttressed canopy trees, sea almond, strangler fig with aerial roots and tall emergents. Leaves now grow along every branch, and lianas climb, hang and loop between them.

  • Palms grow only on beaches. Young hardwoods take their old inland spots.
  • Forest floors have leaf litter, saplings and sparse grass. Meadows have seed stalks and the odd small flower.
  • Ferns, taro and coastal plants are textured leaves now, and fallen logs and stumps lie in the groves.
  • Boulders sit along steep slopes, lean into the hill and carry real moss.
  • The island is a little brighter overall.
  • Turning to face the forest no longer causes a hitch.

Time and weather

  • Dusk and dawn last about 2¼ minutes instead of about 10 seconds.
  • Nights have a cool blue-grey shift, and grass parts around nearby players.
  • Rain wets the ground and leaves puddles that dry afterwards. Thunder rolls in the distance.
  • The volcano has steam, a night glow and layered lava rock.

Sound

  • Floors sound like what they’re made of. Rock footsteps are louder, and steps kick up dust or droplets.
  • Electrical devices click on and off, plugs spark when they meet a live socket, bases hum, wind turbines whir and lamps flicker as they warm up.

Workbenches, locks and the hammer

  • The three workbenches look clearly different: a scrap-wood trestle, a steel bench with a tool wall, and an industrial lathe station.
  • The small furnace has a new model. Other items went back to their original look.
  • The key lock is now a steel box lock instead of a padlock.
  • The hammer repairs by swinging at a piece within reach. Repair is no longer on the wheel.
  • Aiming at a socket that’s already built moves the preview to an open spot, or shows “Already built here”.

Joining and settings

  • Joining a server that was asleep starts right away and shows progress while the world loads.
  • The loading screen shows real progress and offers Retry or Main menu if the first load fails.
  • Settings › Privacy has Streamer mode: it hides the server name and address and replaces player names with stable aliases.
  • Settings › Audio holds proximity voice: on or off, volume, microphone choice with a test meter, and nearby mutes.

Fixes

  • Less flicker across the forest, and steadier shadows.
  • Leaves seen from below no longer turn black.
