New islands: snow, desert and radiation

Servers now wipe onto freshly generated islands with jungle, desert, arctic and volcano. New monuments, wildlife, radiation, survival items and raid alerts came with them.

A new island every wipe

Survival servers now get a freshly generated island at each wipe, with jungle, desert, arctic and volcano regions. Each has its own trees, plants, ground, weather, wildlife and sounds, and the map tab paints the whole island. Rivers and small islets come with them.

Every official survival server except US West 2× moved to a generated island with this update, after a backup. US West 2× keeps its current map and bases until its scheduled wipe on Thursday, October 22.

Snow and desert

  • Arctic weather brings flurries and blizzards, sparkling snow, aurora at night and visible breath.
  • The desert has sandstorms, heat haze, dust devils and tumbleweeds.
  • Wolves and polar bears live in the arctic, and wild boar roam the desert.
  • Both regions have their own ambience, footsteps and gusts.

New monuments and radiation

Five new monuments appear on generated islands: Glasswater Array and Redrock Proving Ground in the desert, Frostline Station and Permafrost Vault in the arctic, and the Icebound Trawler on the frozen coast.

  • The higher-tier monuments are now radioactive. Light: Satellite Dish, Glasswater and Frostline. Moderate: inside the Utility Tunnels, Redrock and Permafrost Vault. Strong: their red-card elite rooms.
  • Radiation builds up a dose that hurts gently once it passes 100. Clothing protection reduces it, and only a hazmat suit lets you stay in an elite room.
  • A HUD chip shows your dose, and a Geiger counter clicks while you’re exposed.
  • Starter sites, the Harbor, Outpost, Oil Rig, Lab, Cargo Ship and Trawler stay clean.

New items

  • Large Medkit, Small Stash (bury it and it’s hidden until someone looks right at it), Floor Spikes, Binoculars and the Frag Grenade.
  • Packaged food in barrels and crates: Tinned Sardines, Hardtack, Ration Packs and Bottled Water.
  • The supply drop arrives by plane, falls under a real parachute and marks its landing with signal smoke.
  • Triangle hatches and floor grills fit floor frames.
  • Every placeable item shows in your hand while you hold it.
  • Reefs around the dive sites have corals, seagrass and schools of fish.

Raid and wipe alerts

The Raid Alarm is a new electrical device. Power it with 3 W, give it a name and pair yourself with it. While powered, it watches 20 m around it for raid damage and tells you, even when you’re offline, by browser notification or Discord message. You can also get a notice an hour before a wipe and when it goes live. Turn alerts on in Options › Notifications; they’re all off by default and need a signed-in account.

Also in this update

  • A $1.99 Starter Pack, once per account, with a hatchet skin and 250 Sparks.
  • When someone kills you, the death screen shows their weapon skin.
  • Lava has a cooled crust and glowing rim, and trees carry more lianas and limbs.
  • Grass no longer grows through your foundations.
  • Footprints and tyre tracks appeared in snow and sand. (They were removed in the next update.)
