Dedicated US West servers, 3D clouds and more animals

US West Main, US West 2× and US Small move to our own machine in Oregon, with lower ping and room for 100 players on the two big servers. Clouds are now 3D, animals are easier to find, movement no longer snaps you back on ramps and roofs, and trees give far more wood.

US West servers on our own machine

US West Main, US West 2× and US Small now run on a dedicated server in Oregon. You join them exactly as before, from the same server list. Your bases, loot and survivors come with them.

  • Lower ping for players in the west: in our tests from Oregon, a typical ping went from 42 ms to 22 ms, and the slowest moments from 115 ms to 47 ms.
  • US West Main and US West 2× now take up to 100 players. US Small stays at 50.
  • No more sudden world restarts when a busy server runs out of time on its old host.
  • US East, EU, Playground, Arena and Bedwars stay where they were.

Snappier servers

  • Your own actions get their answer straight away instead of waiting for the next server tick.
  • Melee hits now account for your ping, like gunshots already did, so a swing that lands on your screen lands on the server.
  • Switching hotbar slots shows at once.
  • Empty worlds and worlds just after an update wake up much faster.

Smooth movement on ramps, stairs, roofs and rocks

  • No more snapping back when you roll off a step, a spiral stair, a ramp's side or a roof's edge.
  • Sliding down big rocks and steep hills no longer throws you back up the slope.
  • Standing on rock rims and steep rock faces works, and jumps from them are no longer refused.
  • Walking down steps is smooth instead of dropping the camera in hard jolts.

3D clouds

Cumulus clouds are now real heaps with bright tops and grey bases, lit by the sun and the moon. Sunsets glow through them and storm decks roll in lumpy and dark.

More animals, easier to find

  • Herds graze in the open instead of hiding in the woods.
  • The desert has boar and monitor lizards, and the snow has caribou-like deer herds, bears and wolf packs.
  • Birds and crabs fill in the coasts.
  • Saved worlds get the new animals on their next start, without a wipe.

Trees give far more wood

  • A normal jungle tree now gives 1,000 wood in total. Small, large and giant trees give 850, 1,100 and 1,250. Palms give 500 or 600, dead trees 400 or 500.
  • Charred trees in the volcanic badlands give less wood but plenty of charcoal.
  • The metal hatchet, salvaged axe and chainsaw all get the full amount and differ only in speed. Stone tools get a share.

One survivor per account

When you're signed in, the desktop app and the website now play the same survivor on each server, instead of one each.
